FRISCO, Texas (Jan. 29, 2010) – US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys 1994 regional teams will compete in an international tournament Feb. 7-12 in Costa Rica. They will play the Costa Rica National Team and local dominant clubs.
"This is an exciting time for the US Youth Soccer ODP Boys 1994 regional teams as they have worked throughout the past year to advance through their state and regional programs to hopefully have the opportunity to be selected for this international event," said Brent Mangus, US Youth Soccer ODP Boys chairman. "Not only will they have the opportunity to test themselves in international competition, but they get to experience the culture and lifestyle from a different part of the world."
Along with the opportunity to compete against elite international competition, this valuable experience will have regional teams participate in cultural events such as music and dance presentations, white water rafting, a tour of San Jose and the Poas Volcano, as well as a community service project.
The players must try out to qualify for the program's high-level training from licensed coaches through a series of trials at their local, State Association and then Regional levels. Those selected are exposed to the nation's best coaches, trainers and facilities.
US Youth Soccer is divided into four regions, Region I (East), Region II (Midwest), Region III (South) and Region IV (West) to assist in national competitions.
US Youth Soccer ODP is the original Olympic development program and the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer and Women's Professional Soccer as well as a majority of current and past national and youth team members, as alumni. And, with programs in all 55 State Associations as well as regional and national championships and participation in international tournaments, US Youth Soccer ODP continues to lead the way.
The 1995 US Youth Soccer ODP Girls will compete in Costa Rica March 23-28. In 2009, US Youth Soccer ODP Boys and Girls teams traveled the globe including play in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Germany, Holland, Italy, South Africa, Spain and Russia.
